Ah, the good old days when all it took to break through the clutter was a clever email or a well-timed phone call. Now, spam filters and robocall blockers have become the vigilant gatekeepers of our precious attention. It’s like trying to sell umbrellas in the Sahara – good luck with that.

Remember when Aaron Ross came out with his Predictable Revenue system? It was like someone handed out the secret sauce recipe for success, and every Tom, Dick, and Harriet decided to whip up a batch. Sure, it worked – for about five minutes – until everyone and their grandmother jumped on the bandwagon. Suddenly, that once shiny, innovative sales strategy turned into just another humdrum tactic in a sea of sameness.

Imagine your sales strategy as a daisy in a field. At first, you’re the only bloom in a freshly cut lawn – bright, noticeable, and, most importantly, different. But then, predictably, the field fills up with daisies, and now you’re just one of many. Not exactly the standout you were aiming to be, right?

So what do you do? Throw in the towel, cry into your CRM, and start browsing job listings? Nope. It’s time to be the green apple in a bushel of reds. It’s time to interrupt the pattern. And here’s where things get fun – remember that archaic concept called snail mail? Yeah, the thing your grandparents used to send birthday cards. It’s back. But not just any mail – Lumpy Mail.

Back in my heyday, I sent out a can of WhoopAss (yes, you read that right) to request meetings. Why? Because it wasn’t a phone call or an email destined for the spam folder. It was a tangible, lumpy piece of intrigue that landed right on their desk. You better believe it got opened. And more than that, it got kept. My prospective clients didn’t just toss it; they proudly displayed it. It became a part of their workspace, a conversation starter, a reminder that I was different.

One client – and this is my favorite part – wasn’t ready to work with me when she got that can. But two years later, when she was ready? Guess who she called? That’s right – the guy who sent her the can of WhoopAss that sat on her desk for two years.

The moral of the story? Break the pattern. Don’t be just another blade of grass, lost in the monotony of the field. Be bold. Be memorable. Be the one who sends a can of WhoopAss.
