So, the other day I’m chatting with one of my fav startup wizards, and she’s about as thrilled with her team as a cat in a bathtub. The magic word of the day? ACCOUNTABILITY. It’s buzzing in my head like a pesky fly, and just as I’m about to go kaboom, it bursts out of my mouth like a party popper.
We chew over ACCOUNTABILITY, and it’s clear she’s got her ACCOUNTABILITYNESS hat on tight. We brainstorm some “maybe fixes” that are as likely to work as a chocolate teapot, but hey, optimism, right? Then we hit the jackpot: the Makeits and Breakits.
Here’s the scoop: the team’s dropping the ball, but nobody’s really getting benched for it. In simpler terms, no one’s getting a one-way ticket to Unemploymentville for these oopsies. They know the make or break stuff like the back of their hand. As long as they’re nailing the biggies, they’re cool as cucumbers about the small fries.
Our grand conclusion? List out the company’s Makeits and Breakits like a shopping list. Stick these targets on everyone’s back, but in a fun, non-threatening way (no actual darts, please). Picture this: if I’m the Customer Happiness Guru and I’m acing it, tweeting is as important to me as yesterday’s sushi. I’m rocking my Makeit, so my Breakit – let’s call it ‘tweet neglect’ – is on the backburner.
If I’m the boss and tweeting is my jam, I’m not going to pile that on the Customer Service Superhero. Nope, I’ll find a Tweet Master who knows their job is toast if they don’t tweet like a champ.
And if I can’t stick a ‘Tweet Me’ badge on someone because they’re juggling bigger fish to fry, well, I’ll just have to deal with a Twitter account that’s more ghost town than Times Square. I won’t take it as a personal affront to my leadership. I’m not measuring my success by our tweet game. It’s a ‘nice to have’, not a ‘must have’, in this rollercoaster of a startup world. If tweeting was a Makeit, you bet I’d be on someone’s case for their lackluster tweet-itude. But for now, we’ll just keep swimming and hope for the best in the wild waters of startup land! 🚀🐟🎉
